Instead of having breakfast in the crowded kitchen in the
hostel we decided to enjoy it somewhere nice and peaceful. So aftr checking out we drove to East
Point Reserve and were amazed by the view. What a great place to have
breakfast! The ocean was so blue and we
could see Darwin city centre in the distance. There was heaps of historic sites
around as well as Darwin used to be the Australian hotspot during World War 2 when they got bombed by the Japanese.
After driving around for a bit we decided to check out the Northern
Territory’s biggest shopping centre ‘Casuarina’. It felt like being back in Melbourne! It was really big and yet we run into two other couples whom we met
during our travels up North!
After stocking up we drove all the way to Gunn Point. It was
a 40 km drive on an unsealed road to the ocean north/east of Darwin. At the end there were two roads
going towards the beach but as one was extremely muddy (there was even someone
stuck in a puddle) so we decided to take the other turn.
The road brought us straight to the beach! Camping on the
beach was prohibited so we parked just on top of the small dunes and had an
amazing view over the ocean.
Swimming is not possible in the ocean here in the north,
unless you want to get stung by the Box Jelly Fish or eaten by a saltwater
crocodile. But watching the sun set whilst having a beer and talking to Mum on
Skype was pretty special anyway!
