Day 23 Kata Tjuta

After an enormous amount of rain last night we were relieved it was only drizzling a little bit when we woke up.

After breakfast we entered the park again and headed for Kata Tjuta , also known as The Olga’s. It was about a 50 km drive to get there. We first walked the Walpa Gorge walk, which takes you into the gorge. Probably it doesn’t happen too often that there is actually water flowing.

We then drove on to the start of ‘The Valley of the Winds’ walk. It was a grey day and it drizzled most of the afternoon. Nevertheless we both really enjoyed the walk up. It takes you through some of the rock formations ending at a gorgeous lookout.

Instead of walking back the same way we decided to walk the whole loop (7.4 km). The first bit was a little bit steep going down but the rest of the walk was very easy walking through the bushland surrounding Kata Tjuta. At the end of the walk the footpath was flooded on several spots, so we had to create our own path if we didn’t want to get wet feet. Oh well, it made the walk a bit more adventurous I guess!  Although walking in high grass in an area of Australia where there’s heaps of poisonous snakes around was more than ‘adventurous’ in Monique’s opinion. ‘Life threatening’ was probably more how she would describe it. Lol!

Back in the car we felt satisfied and happy that we had decided to do the walk even though the weather wasn’t the best. We drove back to the resort one more time to get fuel and groceries before we drove back to the Curtis Springs Station Campground again.
