I (Monique) was excited to arrive in Townsville today as it's one of my favorite cities in Australia.
And just as an extra it turned out to be a gorgeous sunny day. So we drove to 'The Strand'; Townsville's famous Boulevard. We wanted to go for a swim at The Rock-pool but it turned out Wednesday was cleaning day, the only day of the week the pool is closed. Bugger!!!
Ah well, instead we went for a stroll and spoiled ourselves a bit.
From the Boulevard we walked up to Kissing Point Fort, an old Queensland Fort. Japanese bombers attacked Townsville in the WW2. It was very informative and the view was nice too.
After some shopping in the town center we drove to Castle Hill Lookout. The drive up was extremely steep but the view was amazing. Both Sander and I had walked up here during our backpacking adventure years ago so it was nice to be back. The view onto the town and the ocean, and Maggie Island in the distance is just amazing!
That night we stayed at a free rest area next to a petrol station. Not scenic at all but hey.. it's free!
