We could see why so many grey nomads seemed to stay at this campsite for a while. We didn't want to leave either but we have to be back in Melbourne in two weeks and we still have some distance to cover. So we packed up and left. Well, not until Sander butchered one of the coconuts we found yesterday. It wasn't easy but he managed. We just had breakfast so we didn't feel like eating it yet (to be continued).
From Bowen we drove straight to Airlie Beach. This very popular ocean town is the Gateway to the popular and beautiful Whitsunday Islands. As Sander and I have done this before as backpackers but also together back in 2010 we skipped it this time. Instead we drove to Shute Harbor which is less touristic but very pretty. The view of the Island in the distance is just gorgeous.
We prepared lunch on the harbor lookout and after that we walked to another lookout via a rain forest track and a beach covered in pebbles. Very nice.
In the afternoon we booked ourselves into the 'Backpackers by the Bay' hostel back in Airlie, which we had stayed at in 2010 and where we enjoyed a fun new years eve back then.
Again we had a great evening. They have a pub quiz on every night and like 4 years ago our group won it (a bottle of bubbles). It's such a good way to get to know other people in the hostel.
