Coral Bay

We didn’t know what to expect from Coral Bay. We had heard a lot about it but for some reason it looked totally different than we expected up on arrival. The first thing we noticed was the beautiful turquoise bay and then nothing...
Coral Bay is just one big holiday resort. There are two campsites, some resort style accommodation, tour operators and a few units where the locals live. It’s bizarre!

We chose People’s Park campsite and picked a nice and quiet spot on the camp site. We decided to take the pay 3 stay 4 nights deal and settled in. Staying on the same spot for 4 nights seemed pretty daunting for us as we are always on the move but in the end it just went by so quickly.
As there is nothing to do but relax, swim and snorkel you are just forced to unwind and let go. We loved it!

Every day we went for some snorkeling from the beach, or a walk to the shark nursery (a bay where mom reef sharks hang out with their babies) or we would just hang around at the campsite.

The 3rd day we went on a full day snorkeling tour which was absolutely amazing. We visited a cleaning station for reef sharks. This is where the reef sharks go to get cleaned by small fish that nibble dirt from their skin and even go in their mouth to clean the tooth.
Around noon it was time for the highlight of the trip, swimming with manta rays. These giants can get up to 4 meters wide so seeing them from up close in the water is just sensational!
It was very windy and once we were back on the boat it was hard to get warm again. Brrr!
During lunch we saw a big group of dolphins passing by, followed by some turtles.
In the afternoon we went to two more snorkel places where heaps of fish were to be seen. Parrot fish, thrumpet fish, clown fish, etc.

All in all it was an awesome day on the water. Swimming with sharks, turtles, manta rays… just unbelievable!
