This morning Monique heard a car coming our way. It was the
ranger who checks all campers for valid permits (which we had of course). Sander
quickly got out and soon found out the ranger was a very talkative man. He
overloaded Sander, who normally needs some time to wake up, with information
about the area. That was of course very nice if not slightly overwhelming at
this time of the day.
Our first stop that day was Eagle Bluff. Due to low tide there wasn’t
much marine life visible in the waters below but the view was nice anyway. The
color of the ocean water here in the west is just spectacular.
The ranger told us the aquarium a bit further down the road
was well worth visiting, even if it was just for a coffee. And indeed the
coffee was nice, with a beautiful view from the café’s veranda. We decided to
visit the aquarium as well which turned out to be a good choice. All their
tours are guided by a marine biologist who told us everything about the local
under water creatures in the basins. There were sea snakes, turtles, eels,
sting rays, loads of fish including stonefish and sharks. It was a very
interesting morning!
We then drove to Denham to have lunch at the boatramp, before
checking out the town and doing grocery shopping.
We decided to camp at the very touristic resort in Monkey
Mia. It is a small resort town which is famous for their dolphin feeding
program which takes place every morning. Normally we do not appreciate these massive tourist attractions but Monique always wanted to see a dolphin from up close. what better place for that than Monkey Mia.We would not want to be here in high
season as it must be packed with way too many tourists, but we thought one
night in low season must be okay. It turned out to be okay indeed. It was still
too busy for our liking but the resort and the beach were actually very nice
and relaxing. We went for a swim and a walk along the beach. Also there was an
emu walking around the campground with her 5 chicks, which was cute to watch.
