The mosquitoes were merciless this morning when we got up! Whilst enjoying the view from our van and preparing breakfast they invaded our car in big numbers.
Nevertheless this morning at the beach was gorgeous! The whole beach was covered in shells in all shapes and sizes. We walked around for a bit collecting a few shells until the heat forced us back to the car.
After a quick drive on the beach (it's a boys thing) we drove back to civilization (meanwhile fighting of the mosquitoes that took a free ride in our van).
We were actually planning to go to Kakadu National Park but last minute we decided against it. When we checked online we found out about 75 % of the sites/roads were still closed (during wet season they get impassible, and although we've just entered the dry season things haven't re-opened yet). It's a bit of a downer, but we've both been here before and know its not worth it unless the mayor attractions are open.
Ah well, we might be back here later this year!
So instead we are now heading towards Cairns. That means driving back south for a bit on the same road we came from (there aren't many other options). We took a small detour on the Gold Field loop between Adelaide River and Pine Creek. There was not much to see except for the historic Grove Hill Hotel (just a tin shed actually) where we had a beer with one of the locals.
From there it was another 40 km of unsealed road to Pine Creek where we stayed the night at Pussy Cat Flats (and yes the name is based on exactly that!)
Tante Monique, neem je die schelpjes mee!!!?? :)
