After breakfast we prepared pasta sauce for dinner tonight
as we still had a camp kitchen available. So it was already 10 am when we left
the Park this morning. First we did some proper grocery shopping, stocking up
for a couple of days, and then drove to Mount Barker. We didn’t get the idea
much was happening in this little country town so we drove on to Porongurup National
Park.
We prepared lunch at the Picnic Ground and then picked one
of the walks. We chose the 5,5 km loop walk to Nancy’s Peak. It turned out to
be quite a steep walk up but once we made it to the top the views were amazing!
Luckily the grey sky cleared up a little bit and the sun came through every now
and then. The granite outcrops and boulders were beautiful and there was lots
of variety in plants and bird life.
We thoroughly enjoyed the walk although it took much longer
then we planned.
Down the road from the National park we found a lovely
little caravan park (Porongurup Range Tourist Park). As it was still cold and
windy it was nice to find a camp kitchen with a wood stove once again, warm and
cosy. We loved it!
The next morning it was grey and while we were having
breakfast it started raining. Our initial plan was to move on towards the
Stirling Ranges today but we couldn’t be bothered and decided to take it slowly
and booked another night at the caravan park.
We drove to nearby Castle Rock.
It was only a ten minute drive. From the car park it was a steep 2,2 km walk up
to the Castle Rock Skywalk. The Skywalk ended at some massive granite boulders
where we first had to climb in-between a few narrow gaps. Then we climbed a 6
meter high metal ladder that took us to the modern metal skywalk construction
that went around the massive granite rock giving a spectacular view. A large
part of the construction was an overhang so you could see the depth straight
underneath you. Monique even got over her fear of heights for a rare moment and
made it all the way to the end of the walk.
We drove back to the campsite had lunch and just relaxed the
rest of the afternoon.
