New Year’s Eve was a very quiet one for us this year. We had
spent the day exploring Margret River and we had spoilt ourselves on a nice
lunch at one of the restaurants. Next we did some grocery shopping and we bought a
bottle of bubbles before heading back to the campsite.
Everyone at the campsite seemed to have their own plan for
the evening so we ended up celebrating early and going to bed before 12 o
clock! Seriously, as every year, this whole NYE is heavily overrated if you ask
us ;)! Or are we just getting old...
Anyway it was nice to wake up without a hangover and after
packing up we drove to Prevelly beach hoping to find some surf to have a go
with our body boards (which we so far had not been able to use once!!!). However we were out of luck, there was surf indeed but
for that you had to swim way out from the beach. A bit too challenging for us
novices unfortunately.
So of to the caves we went. Lots of caves can be found in
this area and we had chosen to visit Lake Cave as it was recommended to us. We
were just in time to pay the $22.- pp and join the 11 am guided tour. It had
been a while since we had seen some caves from the inside and indeed Lake Cave
was very pretty. Especially the ‘hanging table top’ was a unique feature and
apparently very rare to see worldwide. All in all it was a nice little tour,
but $22 pp is a bit steep for what you get in the end if you ask us.
Via a few little detours we made our way to Cape Leeuwin
where we visited the old water wheel and saw the lighthouse from a distance. If
you wanted to see it up close, you needed a ‘ground pass’ which, we didn’t
think was worth it.
Via a little detour we drove back to Augusta, a lovely
little beach town, where we had lunch near the beach.
In the late afternoon we found a campsite at Boranup between
some majestic trees with lots of birds around! Our neighbors told us they just spotted a big snake, but luckily it didn’t visit us again that night.
