We packed up early this morning and drove back to Mt Baker
where we did some quick shopping. From here we drove to the Stirling Ranges
National Park. At the information board at the Parks campground we had a look
at all the walks in this area and decided to go for a proper one; Knoll Bluff.
When we got to the carpark at the start of the walk we
prepared lunch first. The Bluff looked very impressive from the carpark and we
knew straight away this wasn’t going to be an easy walk.
It turned out to be one of the most challenging walks we
have done for a while. It was a 3100 meter one way, 650 m ascent trip to the
summit (1073 m). It was a never ending staircase and Monique was about to give
up on some point. It was just exhausting. But when we got closer to the
summit the landscape and the path changed and became slightly more enjoyable.
The plants and scrubs in this area were fascinating (and apparently very rare).
The pink, white, purple, and red flowers looked beautiful not to mention the
amazing view over the ranges and the surrounding area. Absolutely stunning!!
We
were very proud to make it to the summit and had a little rest up there before
starting the long way down.
It was so rewarding to make it back to the car park and looking
up at the Bluff knowing we ‘climbed’ it!
Monique really wanted to visit the ‘Dutch Windmill’ that was
nearby and for us it was so odd to see something so typically Dutch on
Australian soil. It looked absolutely amazing though with the Stirling
Mountains in the back ground! Well worth some pictures.
As we didn’t like the National Parks Campground too much so we
decided to drive back to the Porongurup Range Tourist Park once more. Ulli, the
German manager had to laugh when she saw us turning up for yet another night.
